About the Squash and Racketball Club
The SQUASH AND RACKETBALL CLUB is an integral part of the Victoria Club, and is open 7 days a week when the club is open.
Courts are booked (45 minute sessions) for up two weeks in advance using the computerised booking system in the club bar. Lights are activated using ‘light cards’ which are purchased from the club bar.
Racketball
There is now also the opportunity to play Racket Ball at the Street Squash Club.
Racket Ball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
As well as being a great game for experienced squash players, Racketball is perfect for people looking to play a fun and competitive sport. A forty-minute Racketball match is also a fantastic cardio-vascular workout, for players of all abilities.
Rackets & Balls are available for anyone who wishes try Racket Ball. Contact any of the above numbers or ask at the Social Club bar. To see the game being played turn up any week night at the Street Squash Club.
Facilities
We have 4 well maintained courts. Court 3 is a glass-backed show court overlooked by tiered seating for approx 100 spectators. As well as the show court there are three walled courts (numbers 1, 2 and 4) which are overlooked from the gallery above.
The changing rooms are in the same building as the courts which is linked to main Victoria Club building where the bars and lounge are situated.
Boxes
The club runs a monthly ‘Boxes’ system where all club members can play regular games. Boxes consist of 5 players each and matches are played on a monthly basis and players move up and down the boxes each month. There are about 70-80 players who regularly play the boxes.
Tournaments
We run annual tournaments between January and April each year. The competitions are friendly and competitive comprising many different categories. Members may enter as many categories as they wish (for which they are eligible).
The tournaments consist of:
- Challenge Cup (main tournament)
- Clubmans Cup (top 20 players excluded)
- Veterans Trophy
- Handicap Trophy
- Ladies Trophy
- Doubles Cup
- Junior Trophy
The tournament finishes with 'finals night' at the end of April. This is an open evening where anyone is welcome to come down to the club and watch some high quality squash with a drink. An award ceremony will then take place to distribute the trophies and prizes.
Exhibitions
The club holds exhibition matches on occasions, recently featuring Joey Barrington vs Wael El Hindi, and Joey Barrington vs Alister Walker.
These matches always sell out the 100 seats available to watch the show court.
